Why Are US Flags At Half Mast Today?

As of today, November 29, 2023, the US flag is at half-mast across the United States in honor of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Rosalynn Carter passed away on November 21, 2023, at the age of 95. 

She was the wife of former President Jimmy Carter, and she served as First Lady of the United States from 1977 to 1981. 

Rosalynn Carter was a tireless advocate for human rights, mental health, and children's issues. 

She founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Peace, which works to resolve conflicts peacefully and prevent violence. 

She also served as the Honorary Chair of the Carter Center 

In addition to the executive order, President Biden also issued a proclamation on November 25, 2023 

in which he praised Rosalynn Carter's "lifetime of service to our nation and the world.
